Between duty and the search for water in France

Running the Saine in the Jura (East-France)

What can you do, if you had to write your thesis, but really wanted to go out and paddle?! Just do both! After spending hours in the copyshop, I went to France, visited my twin sister, studied during the day and went playboating on Hawai sur Rhone in the evening. What a faszinating wave!

After two weeks friends of mine came and we spent the following time kayaking in the Jura and Pyrenees. We weren`t lucky with the waterlevels, but fortunately we had our climbing gear with us. So we mixed low water runs with days of climbing and ended up having a really good time.

Burning the local creek!!

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

After a hard day of working rafting in the Noguera Pallaresa, we went to burn the local creek again. It was late in the afternoon and there wasn’t so much light, but we took some shots.

After a few problems over the winter the Nene has re-opened for paddling, a great place to learn the basic moves for freestyle and river running.  www.nenewhitewatercentre.co.uk has all the info on opening times.

Palomeres creek!

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

The Palomeers creek is one of my favourites runs. In high flows you can’t stop, so you run 500 metres of continuous drops and slides. It’s so cool!!

Collegiate National Championships in Reno

Collegiate Nationals
BoaterCross Race
Reno Whitewater Park
Loopin the 4Twenty

Headed down to the Collegiate National Championships in Reno this weekend. Ended up making it to the semi-finals in the boatercross, it was a physical event with people taking paddles to the face quite a bit. Luckily no one got seriously injured. Levels were a bit low for the play spot I ended up one spot out of the final rounds. Won some money in the casino and had a good time for sure. Looking forward to the Reno River Fest in a couple of weeks.

Low Water Creeking in Scotland Pt. 1

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

I’ve just got back from a very, very low water trip to Scotland with fellow Team Pyranha paddler Richard Brooks and a few friends. Who said there wasn’t much to do in Scotland at low flows…..?

Romadriu Park & Huck

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

Yeah, today I went to run a nice park & huck really near to home. This river is usaully dry, but after some good rain in the Pyrenes we could run this short creek. A couple of rapids and a cool tiny drop.

Right now I’m paddling the AMMO, the perfect boat for this little creeks we have here in the Pyrenes.

Small Recoil Spring Break

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

Spring is here and its time to play! I just got the new small Pyranha Recoil and I have been dying to try it out. Its been very dry around here in North Carolina, but I kept looking at the rising water levels in West Virginia and decided it was time for Spring Break. Its usually drysuits and ice in the eddies this time of year in West Virginia, but instead we were greeted with warm spring temperatures and sunny skies too! Yes, it was paradise–surfing big water, warm temperatures, sunny skies, and cold beer!! This may have been the best spring break of my life!
