Turbio

Monday, December 25th, 2006

We paddled the Turbio, one of the best rivers here in Pucon. The Turbio can only be paddled after good rains, and when we came back from our trip on the north the Turbio was on a perfect high waterlevel after a week of hard rains.

We run three drops that haven’t been runned before, here a picture flying in the third one. After the drop there was a really nice rapid with some slides and drops and a really big slide on the end of the rapid. After this rapid there are lots of rapids with nice drops, some other slides and waterfalls.

The Turbio is one of the best rivers I’ve ever padddled!! It’s amazing!!

In November I accompanied a group of students on a 10 day expedition. They are 1st year students of Outdoor recreation , and most have started kayaking this year.

We walked for 5 days over a couple of peaks, and reached the headwaters of the Clarence river , then spent 5 days descending the 200km to the ocean in high water.

My Own site up and running!

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

rivekore.jpgI have been taking some downtime lately, due to a leg injury and operation that went bad, but in the re-hab time I have completely rebuilt my www.riverkore.com site.

My aim was to make to update able by all of our riverkore team and present it as a showcase of our adventures.

You will find image and video gallerys, which I am trying to fill up with all kind of images that have been sitting on my computer for years doing nothing! You will also find articles from past expeditions, with accompanying galleries and some might even have a video clip.

If you register on the site you get a few features, you can abuse us with comments! (be nice or I delete you:-) You can also add to discussions on any article that has been posted in the forums to discuss.

You can comment on images, send e-cards and there are a few wallpapers around.

So go have a look, have fun and have a great xmas, you guys in the USoA, Happy Hollidays, some one told me the other day American dont say ‘Merry Christmas’

Have fun

Burning Around Ecuador

Monday, December 18th, 2006

After a record setting Fall of floods here in the Northwest, my wife Lise-Anne and I decided to escape the short days and cold water of BC and head south to Ecuador for a month. This was my first trip to South America and it could be best described as a posh boating trip or an adventurous honeymoon depending how one looked at it. Lise-Anne and I decided that what we wanted more than anything after the September Skookumchcuck wedding was a boating trip somewhere away from North America and warm. We decided on Ecuador and it was amazing!

The Eastern Slope of the Andes in Ecuador is loaded with classic day trips that provide ample amounts of whitewater ranging from low volume creeking to large volume river-running and play.

Some shots…

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

Gradually winter is arriving here in middle Europe and therefore there’s not too much paddling action possible here at the moment (unfortunately I don’t have a ticket to the southern hemisphere or something like that this winter…). So I decided to put a couple of pictures of last season onto the page.

Ojos del Caburgua!

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

Yesterday afternoon we went to a park&huck in the Ojos del Caburgua, the confluence of the Desagüe river with the Liucura. In the end of the Desagüe there are two drops, a small one (4 metres) and a good one with two possible lines, a better one on the right (10 m) and a nice on the left, with a first drop and then the waterfall. The acces is really easy, because is a really touristic place with stairs and everything, so in a minute you can be on the upper pool and run it again and again!!

First Descent in Chile!!

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

Yesterday we went to run a first descent here in Chile. There was an unknown river with a really deep canyon with really nice drops. The waterlevel was low, so we could only run the canyon, but there’s a really good upper section. The canyon has two really nice drops and some other rapis with nice slides… We have a really good day scouting and running this incredible river on a fantastic place with really good friends. Now it’s rainning in Pucon so we are waiting to run big stuff on a few days!!

Thank you to Rodrigo of KAYAK PUCON for showing us this incredible river and invite us to run the first descent with him. You can visit his website on: www.kayakpucon.net

Los Tres Saltos (3 waterfalls)!!

Monday, December 11th, 2006

We went to paddle the Tres Saltos, that means The Three Waterfalls in spanish. The river is a really tourist place with three drops. The first one is a really nice slide, the second one is a slide with two channels and a final drop. The third one is the bigger, a big waterfall about 20 metres. The waterlevel was low, but enough to run the three drops.

So, a really good day with fun drops and good friends!!

Mariman!!!

Sunday, December 10th, 2006

We are paddling nice rivers and waterfalls here in Chile. These pics are from de Mariman, an incredible rapid on the Upper Trancura. This rapid has two lines, a really big one on the right and a small one on the left. I runned this small one, but in a few days I’m gonna run the big one with less water.

We are paddling some others portages in Palguin, and we are planning a trip to the north or to the south, it depends on the waterlevels.
